Turkey hunting again

Woody arose at 4:30 am to Turkey hunt with his buddy Dave in Maryland. Turkey hunting is a new experience for Woody and he is totally enjoying the challenge. Dave calls for him, as Dave is very experienced. They didn’t get a turkey today but saw some deer, a bobcat, and some gobblers. The gobbler would not come in close enough but they had a blast anyway. They did find some Morel mushrooms though so came back with a bunch. They can only hunt turkey until Noon in Maryland so were home, had a break and decided to go back into the bush and cut up a tree that had fallen over the road. Woody found a tree with burls on it so brought home some wood for making knife handles on their second trek into the bush. Any day in the bush is an incredible day!

Road to the hunting area, can you see the tracks?

Some mud holes to traverse.

Beautiful country, but the turkeys can see ya for a long ways!

Here is the log they encounter, so had to walk a ways. Went back and cut it up after lunch.

The tree Woody found with the burl on it! Awesome find, makes for beautiful wood grain.

Of course out came the chainsaw again and Woody cut a couple of slabs.

He cut the slabs off the backside of the tree, it won't hurt the tree growth. He will take them to the woodworking shop here and get the slabs smoothed out and cut in strips to use for knife handles. What an awesome find!
Woody and Dave will take me out to the hunting area so I can experience the area for myself. The area they hunt reminds me of the hills in Tennessee we visited in 2004 when we travelled to the Wilderness Lodge and met friends for a Hog Hunt. Woody hunted I just enjoyed the area and meeting up with friends.

While they hunted, I did some house chores, worked on my blog and then sat outside (in the shade) enjoying the grand weather, 80F with just a hint of a breeze now and then to keep me cool. Played with Oreo a bit, then she laid down under the table to rest. We have been here just over two weeks and I do hate the thought of leaving, it is so peaceful and beautiful. The hills have turned green now just in the last few days.
