Visit to the Archery Shop and Richard's arrival

Woody made the trip to Appalachian Archery in Hancock, MD arriving as soon as the shop opened so he would be back in time to greet our friend Richard Thomas (nickname is Hungry Horse) who was arriving around 2:00 pm. We were looking forward to seeing Richard, we had only time for a short visit on our last trip east in 2006 but this time he is able to stay today and tomorrow. Dave and Randi kindly offered their home for Richard’s stay, as we do not have room in the Castle for company.

A very nice shop.

Indoor archery target lanes and a Technohunt video system are available.

The owner, Derek is very knowledgeable and accommodating.

Dave and I had major problems making his bow shoot for me, so getting input from Derek was a tremendous help. He told me the bow could be fixed but it would cost me quite a few dollars and I would still have an old bow. I decided to consider purchasing a new bow. After shooting a Hoyt, Mathews, and a Bow Tech I decided to go with the Bow Tech, it felt the best and the smoothest bow for me. Had it sighted in at 20 yards, after four rounds with four arrows, each I ended up with 2” groupings at the archery shop. I will do more shooting here and sight it in for 30 and 40 yards, I am very pleased with the bow so far, even Dave was impressed with my shooting, after some practice. This bow should serve me well at the African Safari hunt and last a lifetime.

Woody arrived home in time to grab a bite of lunch before Richard’s arrival; we spent the afternoon visiting and viewing some of Richard’s many pictures of the trips he has taken west to the Rockies and other areas. Richard is an excellent photographer and provided running commentaries as we viewed the pictures. Dave arrived home from work, joined our little group sitting in the yard, and visited until it was time for dinner.

We told Richard he had an amazing resemblance to Kenny Rogers, he grinned, thanked us and blushed a little!

We went out for dinner to a little restaurant in Flintstone, MD; a little place close to home at Dave’s recommendation. Randi was working the late shift and Dave said she rarely made it home on time when working that shift so Dave declined the invitation to join us. Fortune shone upon us though, Randi got off work on time; they joined us at the restaurant shortly after we had sat down. After arriving back home we continued visiting for the evening sitting in Dave’s carport with lights on, a perfect place for evening visiting. We left a little early, as Woody wanted to get some rest for the turkey hunt and to give Dave and Richard some private chat time.
