An exciting day!

Woody made it home today safe and sound, I picked him up at the airport right on time, no hassle with customs, he said his luggage had the US custom seals on it and Canada Customs did not ask him to open his luggage at all. We were both so excited as we greeted, lots of hugs and kisses, both of us tearing up a little. On the trip home, he filled me in on some highlights, he was so tired but still elated from his awesome experience, he just could not say enough about the fantastic time he had while in South Africa. Arriving home around 1:00 pm after greeting Oreo and unloading his luggage we looked at all the pictures, wow the pictures are awesome. The area he was at is vast, ruggedly beautiful. The Acacia Tree is everywhere, there are many species of Acacia Trees, and the type of Acacia in the area that Woody was in had vey long thorns, about 4 inches, I could not pin down the exact species. Even with the long thorns, Giraffe, Kudu, and Impala graze on them. If you are interested in more information regarding the Acacia Tree click the link, they really are remarkable trees! http://www.wildwatch.com/living_library/plants-1/acacias-thorn-trees-of-africa

It is winter there now; the trees have beautiful pink or white blooms (depending on the species) in the spring.

Mountains (rising to 7000 feet in elevation)

Some roads travelled while on Safari

When these guys were on the road, we waited till they decided to leave, you did not even honk the horn at them. We needed Crocodile Dundee to work his magic at times eh.

The cottage Woody stayed in at the Lodge, it is 24 x 24, and you will note the building is constructed of stone with thatched roof. All the buildings are constructed like this due to termites; there was a main lodge, several cottages and larger lodges with separate rooms for accommodations. Woody was lucky and had the cottage all to himself, some of the group shared a cottage, and others stayed in the large lodge.

After viewing his 300 plus pictures we watched the video he had taken while being chauffeured on the mountain roads, feeding white lions, Rhinos with babies and some caves he visited with ancient drawings left there by the bush people who inhabited them.
I will post more pictures as I get time and I hope to have the videos and all the pictures uploaded for viewing within the next few weeks for anyone interested to view.

Woody is exhausted after almost 3 weeks of excitement, long flights, (36 hours down and 44 hours back) the drastic time change (daytime here/night time in Africa) so will take a while to rest up and adjust to being back in Canada.

Our daughter’s Michelle, Tracy and families are coming over tomorrow for a “Welcome Home” get together so must finish the preparations. It is a beautiful warm day here today and praying for the same type weather tomorrow.
